Let There Be Light! What Kinds Of Lamps Can Make The Campsite Bright And Beautiful At Night?

After nightfall in the campsite, lighting equipment becomes an essential item. There are various camping lights on the market, which not only provide illumination and warmth but also some that have become a "high-quality photography prop" for camping enthusiasts due to their exquisite appearance. Today, we will take a look at the selection of camping lights and help novice players quickly find a suitable style.

In terms of energy supply methods, today's camping lights are generally divided into four categories: gas, oil, electric energy, and candlelight.

  • Gas Lamp

Gas lamps are powered by commonly used propane and butane gas canisters during camping activities. They are small in size and easy to use, and the light source of the open flame lamps is more natural. It is easy to create a warm and cozy atmosphere for outdoor camping, which is highly praised by camping enthusiasts.

Gas lamps can be divided into two types based on usage details: direct-burning gas lamps and mantle-burning gas lamps.

The operation of direct-burning gas lamps is very simple. Just connect the lampshade to the gas cylinder and light it up to use it. Its flame shape is similar to candlelight, which looks artistic and exquisite. However, the lighting range and brightness are relatively small, so it is often used as an "atmosphere set" for photography.

The mantle-type gas lamp requires an extra mantle to be installed on the burner, which is ignited to carbonize the mantle. The carbonized mantle is fragile, and one should be cautious when moving or using it repeatedly to prevent it from cracking. Although its operation is relatively cumbersome, the greater brightness of the mantle-type gas lamp compensates for the shortcomings of the straight-type gas lamp. For small camping groups of 1-3 people, the illumination range of one mantle-type lamp can cover the entire egg roll table, making it suitable as a main light source.

  • Oil Lamp

The kerosene lamp has long been outdated in our daily life, but it still adds a unique charm to camping sites in the wilderness. Hanging a kerosene lamp on the tent not only provides illumination, but also adds a touch of nostalgia to your camping experience with its vintage design.

Thanks to the properties of fuel (kerosene, white spirit), the light of a fuel lamp is stable and provides a 360° diffuse light. The brightness is high and the color temperature is comfortable. In addition, the fuel lamp in the shape of a lantern has a handle that can be hung at a high place, so there is no need to worry about occupying space when using it.

However, the disadvantages of kerosene lamps are also evident: their fuel is considered dangerous and storing and using them poses certain safety risks compared to other types of lamps, such as gas or electric lamps. Moreover, the lamp gets hot when in use, so one should be careful not to touch it to avoid burns.

In addition, nursing and maintenance are also crucial for kerosene lamps. Neglected lamps may encounter problems such as blocked oil pipelines and corroded oil tanks, so only experienced drivers with strong skills can use them better.

  • Electric Light

In camping activities, the most widely used campsite lamp is undoubtedly electric lamp. The ultra-small volume of LED lamp beads or bulbs can almost transform into various classic camping lamp shapes such as kerosene lamps and oil lamps. The convenience of charging is self-evident, and it can be easily handled with just one outdoor portable power source.

For outdoor camping players, two types of electric lights may be the most common:

String lights perfectly satisfy the "essential requirements" of large tent multifarious lighting and atmosphere creation. Distributed lighting can make the light inside and outside the tent softer and more uniform, which increases the tension of the scene. Different-shaped string lights are not only affordable and beautiful, but also greatly loved by children and girls. When wrapped around the tent ropes, they can also serve as a warning to prevent campers from accidentally tripping on them.

No matter which camping light you choose, an extra headlamp can provide great convenience for you when camping at night, freeing your hands to move with lighting, from setting up the campsite, fishing and playing to going to the toilet before going to bed. A headlamp is essential.
